I totally agree with you. Even just now, responding to your comment, as a new user I would be super confused with the flow around commenting.

I’d prefer the first x (maybe 10) comments to just be shown on article load, and then have a “Show more responses” button. Responding should definitely be done on the same page. I really like how Facebook handles their responses to posts!

What kind of solution do you think would work here?
